Wookiees, in general, are a more quiet people than humans. The silence isn’t meant to make her uncomfortable in the same way that Chewie isn’t bothered that Carol wants to say something.
He speaks, then they wait for him to be understood.
“Your people must think of you as very skilled. Or you are very brave. Uncharted space travel is very dangerous.” There’s a thoughtful pause and then, he offers her this observation. “He wants to protect you.”
