Smuggling is not impressive to anyone. At best, if you’re good at what you do, you’ll impress other criminals. It’s not heroic work. It’s not honest and he still cares what other people think about him. Plus, he’d worked so damn hard to get into the military and try to make something out of himself, that the thought of washing out still stung pretty bad.
