It's cold, but they don't have to stay out in the cold for long. Ver waits at the bottom of the ladder until he's got the door open and is through before following him up. There's a moment's pause between reaching the top and climbing out while she gets a look at the lay of the land. A tumble up here might end up with her falling completely off the ship, and that is not her idea of a good time.
At least it isn't snowing at the moment; they've got a clear view and a good chance of enough warning of a weather shift to get back inside.
