If Kylo Ren were going to make a move, this would have been the time. It would have been so easy for him to ignite that lightsaber, kill his father, take control of the ship and fly right back into First Order territority. The thought crossed his mind more than once. It was what the Supreme Leader wanted him to do.
But instead, he let go. He allowed himself to stand unarmed against his father, with his weapon (and literally his life) in his father's hands. If he wanted to kill him, to save the galaxy from the menace that was Kylo Ren, this was his chance.
"...Let's get this overwith."
It was a bold show of trust - the first one in more than a decade. Whether there would be more would be entirely dependent on what Han Solo did next.
