It takes a long time, seemingly to collect his thoughts and in that time, powerful a telepath that his son is - he might very well have picked up the hurt and rejection that his father is trying to hard not to show, but eventually he makes his point ... "I suppose I get it if you don't want to go by that name, but even if you weren't in hiding, I don't know that Kylo Ren suits you either."
