They had. They didn't do it alone. Matter of fact, things had gone spectacularly bad when they'd more or less tried to do it that way. But damn, if Han was going to quit on something that was so important. Or wait for things to get so bad that the New Republic would finally do something about what was going on.
If he could live it all over again, he still would have chosen to be right there, right then.
And when it was all said and done, Chewbacca was happy to embrace Han's 'pup' as his own. Han and Chewie, had always been more than two people who worked together. The two of them were a kind of family for almost as long as they had known each other.
"A whole village in one tree." Han says, putting down his food as he tried to help jog the kids memory. "Mallatobuck, that was Chewie's wife, the place always smelled like roast Bantha because she made it so often. I don't think there was a single tree drum you didn't try to hit that you saw. And I can remember you always wanted to go for walks on the trails."
The older Solo scoots just close enough to Ben to be within arms length and strokes his hand over his son's back. He'd so often be guilty of doing the same when you were little, kid, because you never could get right to sleep ...
"I'll never forget the time you got into the nursery ring when you were a toddler because you wanted to wrestle with the Wookiee children. I'm pretty sure that was also the day that my hair started to go gray."
