He eventually sat up, looking his father in the eyes.

"I'm not very good at shielding myself, all right? The Supreme Leader forbid it." He was sure Han could imagine what happened if you went against such a rule. "His... guidance... That's a privlege."

And there was a part of Ben that still believed it even though he didn't really want to anymore. He was a pawn, and a very willing one at that. But he didn't want to go back to Luke for answers either.
