It's a shame that the kind of life that Ben Solo had lived made him feel that way; that the only reason someone would want to look at him was to force information out of him or torture him. Neither Maz nor Han are all that surprised by the response, but the elder Solo has to look away. The thought of something clearly bothering him.

"That is not my way." The alien responds.

The tone of her answer is not a coddling one, not meant to soothe his worries as much as it is a statement of fact. Though she does seem to be adjusting the lenses in front of her eyes anyway. If he denies her, she's at least going to see what she can see from there.
