Case in point: she knows he doesn't mean it to hurt, that she can't be kept, that she has responsibilities... but the idea that he doesn't want to keep her stings. The feeling is tamped down as soon as she recognizes it. Foolish, stupid thing to feel. His wanting that would only lead to pain for them both.
