Seven drabbles of Bria and Han.

luxuria

She trembles in his arms; shaking like the leaves on a Manax tree during a violent storm. He takes to drawing the young woman close to him.

Han feels her heart beating so hard, that it scares him.

“I need it.” She nearly chokes on her tears while trying to force out her admission. “I can’t …”

Solo’s hands smooth over the red waves of her hair and he murmurs every comfort in her ear that he can think to say.

She has a longing for the chemicals they hooked her on … and there’s little that can help apart from time.

 invidia

Its set apart from the other houses by almost a klick. Hidden behind tall security fences. The one-time thief is analyzing them as they go by on a landspeeder; trying to decide how he would disable the security or otherwise sneak around.

Breaking into the Tharen house …

It’s a kind of logic puzzle. One he thinks he could solve, too.

When he can finally see the home, it takes effort to keep his jaw from hanging open. The immense wings and towers make it seem like a kryffing castle.

‘Bria, honey, why didn’t you tell me your parents are rich?’

One night she left him.

In a dive of a hotel room.

On Coruscant.

There would have been nothing to prove she had been present at all, if not for the stack of credits her father gave them. And the note that said goodbye.

It was … six years … before he saw her again.

The gown she wore was the same color as her eyes; the color of envy. It was low cut. Made of a fine silk. She looked comfortable in the palatial estate of the Imperial Moff.

Bria, unsurprisingly, seemed to belong in a collection full of fine things.

She couldn’t remember the last time she had sunk her teeth into a good steak. Even when they can replicate the taste pretty well with the military rations … the mouth feel is never quite right. A well paired wine to wash it down; clearly the man who sat across from her had class.

He was also a man who prided himself on gathering information.

From the spice mines, to rebel spy and now? Commander of her own squadron. How Bria Tharen had changed …

She offered truth to Calrissian, knowing it might be passed along.

Their toast is to Han Solo.

superbia

Han. Bria.

It was as convoluted as any other period in the time they had known each other, but in the end, they were going into a battle the next day.

In battles, people die.

It seemed only fitting they spent the night before being alive.

The firefight began at dusk the next day. Tharen keeps a cool head and she had become a great shot. He can’t help but to notice his influence.

“I can handle this.” She says above the cacophony of blaster fire.

Solo flashes a lopsided grin.

“I know. I just came over to watch.”

“I’m sorry, Han. I’ll need all of it, but it’s not for me.”

She explains something about ‘a call from her superiors’. ‘They need every credit.’ ‘Something big is about to happen’, but the words hardly register.

Her ideals; she’ll never love him as much as she loves those.

“Do you remember this?”

He produces the note she left him on Coruscant. And tears it up in front of her.

The Corellian smuggler feels such rage that he doesn’t realize what else he says … apart from one thing, “If I ever see you again, I’ll shoot you on sight.”

The voice spoken through the helmet’s communicator is digitally dispassionate and yet, Han has to believe that it would sound just as cold if he had taken his headgear off.

“She’s dead.”

Nothing wants to move right now.

“Bria?”

“Yes.”

“Dead.” Han says, the word sounding hollow as he feels. “How’d you find out?”

“The Imperial datanet. It was 36 hours ago.” Fett explains. “I made a vow to her and I always keep my word, Solo. … someone needs to tell her father.”

It was strange, the way he could be so conflicted while feeling so numb

“I’ll do it.”
